Switching your checking account to Sterling Bank has never been easier!

Becoming a Sterling Bank customer is easy with a Switch to Sterling packet, which includes all the forms you need to make your switch. Switch to Sterling includes forms that help you close your current account and change any direct deposits and automatic payments.

The Sterling Bank Switch to Sterling packet includes all the forms you need to make your switch, including a Change My Account Payment form, and a Direct Deposit form. Print or copy as many forms as you need, and fill them out to make the switch. It’s that easy! Follow the simple steps listed below.

Step 1: Open your new account at Sterling Bank.

Stop by Sterling Bank to open a new checking or savings account.
Remember to have to following items ready when you open your account:

  • Un-expired government issued photo identification
  • Details of your existing automatic payments
  • Details of your current direct deposits

Just a note: When opening your account, all new account holders must be present.

Step 2: Stop using your old account.

Please leave sufficient funds in your previous account to cover any outstanding checks, ATM/debit card transactions, or automatic payments that may be charged to your account. It’s also a good idea to destroy any unused checks, deposit slips, and ATM or debit cards from your previous account.

Step 3: Change your direct deposit to Sterling Bank.

Simply complete as many Direct Deposit forms as you need. Forward those to the appropriate place to let them know you’ve switched banks. Include a deposit slip or voided check from your new Sterling Bank account. Or you may bring contact phone numbers or forms to us and we will assist you in getting your direct deposit transferred to your new account. It’s that easy!

Step 4: Change all of your automatic payments.

Change your automatic withdrawals and automated payment services using the Change My Automatic Payment form. Please include a deposit slip or voided check from your new Sterling Bank account. Remember to include payments you may have made using your old debit card number, such as payments for online services.

Step 5: Close the account at your old bank.

There is no need to visit your former bank personally. Simply complete and submit the Closing My Previous Account form to close your account. If you have a remaining balance after your outstanding checks have cleared, the bank will send you a check.

Step 6: Enjoy using your new Sterling Bank Account!

Congratulations, just a few simple steps, and you’re ready to go! You’ve switched to Sterling Bank, and may now enjoy all the benefits that come with your new checking account. It’s that easy!
