Introducing Debit Card Fraud Text Alerts!

Debit Card Fraud Text Alerts will begin January 2, 2019.

Your security is always a priority at Sterling Bank.  With real time fraud text alerts, you can now protect yourself from fraud and merchant compromises with Sterling Bank Debit Card Fraud text alerts! Please verify Sterling Bank has your correct cell phone number on file. 

In the past, when suspicious transactions occurred (such as purchases in unexpected places), we would contact you with a phone call.  Starting January 2, 2019, you will be contacted with a text message.  You will be able to respond to let our fraud department know if a transaction is legitimate or fraudulent.  If you do not want to receive text alerts we will still be glad to call you if suspicious activity occurs.  

If you DO NOT want to enroll in receiving Debit Card Fraud Alerts, reply “STOP” to cancel when you receive the text message.

Once enrolled, if a transaction is flagged as suspicious, you will receive a text message informing you of the transaction.  You will be given the opportunity to respond to the text message to indicate if the transaction was authorized or fraudulent. 

Example of Debit Card Fraud Text Alerts

Sterling Bank Fraud Alert: Did you attempt a transaction on debit card ending in ****1234 at merchant name in state of purchase for $25.62? Reply YES or NO.

Based on your reply, you will receive one of the following messages:

If you reply NO, you will receive the following response:

Sterling Bank Fraud Alert: Your response has placed a block on the card.  Call us immediately at 877-273-5740, available 24/7. 

If you reply YES and your card is in active status, you will receive the following response:

Sterling Bank Fraud Alert: Thank you for your response.  We will continue to monitor your card for unusual activity.

If you reply YES and your card is in a restricted status, you will receive the following response:

Sterling Bank Fraud Alert: Thank you for your response.  We will contact you when the temporary hold on your card has been removed.  Sorry for any inconvenience.
